Believers Fellowship Bible Church grew from a city wide Bible study. A small group of families began meeting as a church body in 1994, moved to the Marty Leonard Chapel in 1996 and called its first pastor, Joseph G. Sahl in 1997.

Joe is a 1977 graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters of Theology degree; he served as senior pastor of Believers Fellowship of San Antonio from 1977 until 1995. Joe and his wife Kathie have five children.
